Para-planner OR Financial Planner / Associate

While my key weakness is my relatively limited experience (three years), I believe that my key strength is demonstrated competence across a range of areas. By that I mean: (1) affable interpersonal and communication skills with a professional demeanour, (2) an attention to detail yet the ability to be pragmatic, as required by the context, (3) excellent English and mathematics, and (4) sound technical skills. My next role will ideally see me further my experience.

Employment History

Job Title
Authorised Representative
Industry
Financial Services
04/2007 to Current

  • Originally in April 2007, the role was to assist one adviser with all duties from client services to para-planning.
  • However since then, I have been made an authorised representative and the adviser now employs one person two days a week to cover some of the administrative work.
  • My role, therefore, consists of a variety of tasks which include:
    • advising new and existing clients (advising),
    • writing Statements of Advice and implementation (para-planning),
    • typing letters as well as answering incoming calls and emails (client services),
    • reviewing client portfolios and making recommendations for approval by the adviser (client reviews), and
    • participating in the business plan in areas such as (1) developing the company’s website to go live and creating online content, and (2) defining the services offered in-house and those services provided externally through referral partners (business development).
  • The financial products used include: direct shares, managed funds, numerous platforms, cash products, insurance bonds, family trusts, SMSFs and XPLAN.

Job Title
Para-planner
Industry
Financial Services
01/2007 to 04/2007

  • This position was unfortunately short-lived after an internal restructure saw it become a client services role, which was not part of the original job description.
  • Nevertheless it provided me with exposure to a boutique which placed all clients on its badged platform (BTWrap) and used VisiPlan for client reviews.

Job Title
Private VCE Tutor
Industry
Education
01/2005 to 12/2006

  • Tutoring in English and mathematics attests to my proficiency in both those areas.
  • In building a client base, I developed client-facing skills (incl. retention and referral).

Job Title
Library Assistant
Industry
Education
01/2002 to 12/2005

  • Employed as a library assistant, the role involved shifts on the loans desk, back-office functions (e.g. processing periodicals) and shelf-stacking.
  • Working in an academic library greatly enhanced my research skills at university and, later on, in financial planning (e.g. knowing how to find information).
